Magnesium

Hi everyone. Roscoe Here. Holistic Care Practitioner at Colonic Care with Cindy D Cerecer. Today I would like to share a bit about Magnesium. This is probably one of the most under appreciated minerals out there today. Calcium gets a lot of attention! But I gotta tell you that having a Magnesium deficiency can lead you to having major symptoms ranging from headaches to high blood pressure even to hormone imbalance. So we’ll dive into that here, exploring how to naturally balance out magnesium deficiency in the body. Let’s go….

Here are some key facts you need to know about Magnesium:

➡️1. It helps regulate calcium, potassium and sodium levels within the body. These are other electrolytes.

➡️2. Not only does magnesium affect your body directly, it affects your body indirectly by supporting absorption and the utilisation of different minerals and vitamins and even enzymes in your own body.

➡️3. Magnesium is essential for Cellular Health. In fact, check this out! Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical actions in your body which are necessary for your body to be able work properly and function optimally.

Here’s something to think about: If your body is deficient in Magnesium, that means over 300 different biological functions are not working at the highest level inside your body. Also, some experts have concluded that up to 80% of our population are Magnesium deficient. This is a key point here, that the majority of people including maybe you reading this, chances are you’re probably Magnesium deficient to some degree.

Now, here’s some big reasons why we are so deficient in Magnesium today:

➡️1. Soil Depletion. You know when you look at or compare an apple or a tomato or a piece of broccoli from a hundred years ago to today you’ll notice that, when you look at the statistics, it actually has less magnesium in it. In fact, it may have around just a quarter as much magnesium so think about it, you’ll need to eat 3 or 4 times as much broccoli or apples or tomatoes to get the same amount of Magnesium that you did a hundred years ago. So again, soil depletion, a major factor causing vitamin and mineral deficiency.

➡️2. Genetically modified organisms(GMO’s). Don’t even get me started. But I will say this, there’s a lot more digestive disease today. A lot more people have leaky gut syndrome, poor digestion including symptoms of gas and bloating which are some of the warning signs of leaky gut. But you know, those symptoms mean that you’re not absorbing magnesium properly. Poor digestive Health. We’ve all heard that principle: You Are What You Eat. Well, it’s not the complete truth. You are what you digest. And if you’re not digesting properly, you’re not absorbing minerals properly, including Magnesium.

➡️3. Medications. Certain medications such as proton-pump inhibitors(PPI’s) and some diuretics will block absorption of Magnesium in the body or they will cause your body to use up too much magnesium in the detoxification process trying to get rid of these toxic medications causing you to be deficient.

➡️4. And of course, chemicals in our food supply and in our environment including herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, synthetic hormones, antibiotics and heavy metals can also lead to magnesium deficiency.
These are the big reasons why we have 80+% of people may be Magnesium deficient.

Let’s highlight some of the warning signs of magnesium deficiency. If you have any one of these issues I’m about to list, then that’s a big warning sign that you might be magnesium deficient. However, by simply eating more magnesium rich foods and supplementing with quality Magnesium, it could help with these issues.

➡️1. Leg cramps. Remember Magnesium is part of that electrolyte family. If you get cramping in your calves, legs or anywhere in your body it a warning sign. Typically, it’s one of two minerals, magnesium or potassium and you really need to get both. If you get leg cramps you’re going to want to eat the magnesium rich foods which are usually rich in potassium too. A good topical Magnesium oil can provide relief as well.

➡️2. Insomnia and fatigue. If you have trouble sleeping, part of what magnesium does is it relaxes the body. In fact, it has been referred to as the body’s relaxation mineral and if you’re not sleeping properly and your body’s not relaxed and it’s in this constant fight or flight response and overly tense, over time, if that keeps going, it can lead to fatigue.

➡️3. Muscle pain and fibromyalgia. According to recent medical studies, the number one supplement that made a difference with fibromyalgia symptoms was magnesium at around 300-500 micrograms per day. These studies are showing that Magnesium sufficiency helps muscle aches and pains as well as fibromyalgia.

➡️ 4. Anxiety. I mentioned earlier that magnesium is your bodies relaxation mineral. If you’re anxious, being stuck in that fight-or-flight response or having an overactive sympathetic nervous system can exacerbate your symptoms. For example, if back in the day you had a lion chasing you, you were either running away or fighting for your life. So, all your blood and energy leaves your insides, your organs, and goes to your extremities, your legs and your arms. This is the stress response of the body. Now, if this does not shut down like it’s supposed to, after a while, of course you’re going to be feeling exhausted and anxious. Again, magnesium calms the body, potentially reducing symptoms of anxiety.

➡️5. High blood pressure. Another unique property of magnesium is that it relaxes smooth muscle. We know the muscles of your heart and your vascular system, including your arterial walls, all consist of smooth muscle and magnesium relaxes those therefore reducing blood pressure.

➡️6. Type 2 diabetes. Studies have shown that oral supplementation with Magnesium restores magnesium serum levels, improving insulin sensitivity and metabolic control in type 2 diabetic patients with decreased serum magnesium levels.

➡️7. Migraine headaches. Clinical studies have shown both tension and migraine headaches can be warning signs that you do not have enough magnesium in your body.

➡️8. Osteoporosis. In order for your body to properly absorb calcium you must have sufficient amounts of magnesium in the body. People out there just taking isolate calcium supplements, you’re doing your body more harm than good. Studies have shown, isolated calcium can cause calcification of your arteries leading to heart disease. If you have osteoporosis you want to take a supplement of calcium mixed with magnesium, vitamin k2, vitamin d and even other minerals like Boron or Phosphorous can be important as well.

And now, to begin the restoration of magnesium in the body, let’s dive into some of the most magnesium rich foods.

➡️1. Spinach and Chard. These green leafy vegetables are the king of magnesium foods. Get these green leafy’s into your diet every single day.

➡️2. Pumpkin seeds are really high in minerals both magnesium and zinc, we know zinc is really important for optimal immune system function. Chuck them in a smoothie or just snack on them during the day(lots of chewing:o)).

➡️3. Coconut yoghurt and Coconut Kefir are both good sources of Magnesium.

➡️4. Almonds and Black beans are also good sources of magnesium especially when they’re activated(soaked overnight).

➡️5. Avocados are one of my favourite super foods. They’re loaded with healthy fats which are so beneficial for our hormones. It’s also one of the highest sources of the synergistic combination of Magnesium and Potassium. If you’re one of those people getting cramps or headaches, avocados may be just what the doctor should’ve ordered!!

➡️6. Figs as well are rich in minerals including magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron and copper and are a good source of antioxidant vitamins A and K.

➡️7. Dark Raw Chocolate and bananas are also great sources of a balanced amount of magnesium and potassium which are probably the two minerals most of us are deficient in.

The best way to increase magnesium levels in the body is from the food sources. Fresh, local and organic wherever possible. Eat these magnesium rich foods every day.

Of course, in terms of “You Are What You Digest and Absorb”, cleansing the digestive system with our clinics Ultimate Gastrointestinal Cleanse – 10 Colonics in 30 Days

will strengthen and support your bodies ability to assimilate the magnesium from these beneficial foods.

Another good way is by using a quality magnesium oil for transdermal magnesium absorption. Combining it with essential oils is also very beneficial.

Magnesium enemas are a very cost effective was to get high doses of absorbable Magnesium into the body. Many clients of mine at the Clinic report a profound sense of calm after having one administered.

Now, let’s talk supplements. Here’s something I learned during my own battle with magnesium deficiency. Our minerals are supposed to be in an ionic state in order for the body to properly utilise it. What the heck does this mean? Well, down the rabbit hole I went. What is a mineral anyways? To put it simply, minerals are nothing more than elements – the very same elements that are on the periodic table from high school, like chromium, magnesium, iron, zinc and so on. They are the elements that make up the entire Universe, this Earth and everything on it, including You and Me!

So then, what does ionic mean? An ion is a mineral or element that has a positive or negative charge. That means, down at the molecular level, the element has either too many or too few electrons. It is this unstable ionic state that allows the mineral to bond readily with water, making it possible for the body to absorb it.

The absorption of minerals primarily takes place in the small intestine. As food matter passes through the intestines, minerals transfer in to the bloodstream through the walls of the intestine via the villi. This can only happen if the minerals are in an ionic form. Although stomach acid helps ionise the minerals in foods, a mineral supplement should contain already naturally ionised minerals to be fully absorbed.

💣Truth Bomb💣 When I learned this for the first time, it blew my mind while at the same time made complete logical sense. And after experiencing the benefits of supplementing with ionic minerals, I am now a believer!

So, in closing, while much focus is being placed on ramping up detoxification these days, we must remember to honour the nourishment of our bodies for the support of these beneficial processes.

Let’s all aim for magnesium sufficiency!! 🙌
Much Love 💙
